I think I’m one of 5 people in the US that hasn’t seen Hamilton. This is not a hipsterbrag, nor a “screw that liberal song and dance” by any means. I just haven’t seen it.
My friends seem to be entranced by it. They get a glint in their eye when discussing it. It seems as if Lin-Manuel Miranda has cast some weird positive spell on them. And more power to them!
I’ve never been a Broadway person but I appreciate both plays and musicals. In high school, I attended every showing of Funny Girl that the rival high school put on. (Yes, a boy was involved, but I loved the story. It screamed out to the ugly duckling in me.) And I watched A Chorus Line endlessly on HBO when I was young; if for any other reason, because I was fascinated with the stories of the people who were there to tear their own heart out at a chance for a spot.
But I’ve yet to visit Broadway. Can we ever get rid of this covid bullshit so I can move on with bucket list items?
